The Greater Cleveland Skins Game traveled south to The Tanglewood Club in Bainbridge on Thursday, under cool weather with spotty showers. The greens were fast and the pins were tucked making birdies hard to come by.
But some newcomers found the course to their liking, as Jay Walter and Alan Alford, both of Newbury, cashed in on their first trip ever to the Skins Game.
John Niedzialek was the first to cash, rolling in a 12-foot birdie putt on the 300-yard par four 11th hole.
Erron Gomez then sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the 420-yard par four 14th hole for a birdie skin.
Walter canned his 14 foot putt on the difficult 400-yard par four 17th hole for birdie and a skin, and Phil Bojc birdied the uphill and long par four 460-yard 18th hole to round out the scoring.
The four skins out on the night paid $109.25 each.
Alford grabbed the pin shot on the 217 yard par three 13 hole and Erron Gomez cashed again with the pin shot on the 175 yard 16th hole. Pin shots paid $66.50 each.
Current leader Steve Blackburn Jr.’s hot streak came to an end as he finally was shut out.
A reminder that the top five players on the Greater Cleveland Skins Game Leaderboard after next week’s results will gain exemptions into the finals of this year’s Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship, to be played at Manikiki in August.
Next Thursday, the Skins Game moves to Manikiki with a 5 pm start. All amateur players are welcome!
