Starting in 2013, the Northern Ohio PGA is relocating the Minute Men Ohio Open Championship to the Westfield Group County Club in Westfield Center, Ohio, leaving Medina’s Fox Meadows and Weymouth Country Clubs after a two year run.
In addition, the championship dates have been moved to Monday, July 1st through Wednesday, July 3rd.
Section directors decided to shift locations to Westfield Group Country Club because it offers two championship-caliber courses at one facility, while remaining centrally located in the state””the courses are located five minutes from I-71 in Medina.
“Fox Meadow and Weymouth Country Clubs have been excellent hosts and partners for the past two years, and we can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done,” said Dominic Antenucci, Executive Director of the Northern Ohio PGA. “Westfield Group Country Club is a great fit for the Minute Men Ohio Open because it offers a true test of golf, and its consistently excellent playing conditions meet the PGA of America’s high tournament standards.”
In addition, for the first time in nearly two decades, the tournament will change its dates from the third week in July to the first.
“Typically, the days leading up to the fourth of July are slower for many of our PGA professionals,” said Antenucci. “Our hope is by shifting the tournament to these dates, we can give more professionals and amateurs the opportunity to compete against the state’s best golfers.”
The Minute Men Ohio Open Championship has become Ohio’s most prestigious golf tournament for both amateurs and professionals. The inaugural event was held in 1924, and since has attracted some of the top names in golf, including Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf.
