The North Coast Junior Tour conducted the 2020 edition of the Jim Dawson Match Play Championship at Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury on June 23th and 24th.
Let’s check out all the action!
BOYS 16 – 10
Wyatt Chapman defeated Thomas Wong in the boys 16-19 Division Match Play Championship round 3&2. It was a tight match most of the day between the two, but Wyatt managed to hold on and secure his victory over Thomas.
There was a lot of outstanding golf played in this division, but one match stood out as a great comeback. Owen Hinkle was 5 down on the back nine and had a great comeback to take the match to 21 holes for a victory. Owen’s comeback is a perfect example of how fighting hard and making the key putts can overwhelm an opponent. Hats off to Owen on his remarkable comeback, against Antonio Bodziony of all players: Antonio is the 2019 Classic Cup Champion and one of the best junior golfers in Northeast Ohio.
Sachin Singh defeated Parker Barrett in the Boys 15 & Under Division Match Play Championship round 4&2. This was a competitive match with plenty of fairways and greens hit by the two. Every hole came down to who can make that key putt. Parker made a nice par save on hole 11 to bring himself to 2 down and put some pressure on Sachin in the match. Sachin answered back right away with a conceded birdie on Hole 13 to pull away in the match. Sachin went on to win the next two holes to claim his victory.
Ella Wong defeated Lauren Bangasser in the Girls 19 & Under Division Match Play Championship 3&2. Lauren won the first hole and then Ella came back and won the next 3 holes to take a 2 up lead. Lauren fought back to tie her match back up after a nice stretch of pars, putting the pressure back on Ella. The match was all tied up going into hole 13 and that is where Ella went on a run. Ella won the next three holes to close out Lauren. This is the second year in a row Ella has defeated Lauren in the Championship round.
