MOUNT VERNON’S JIM TROY WINS SECOND NOPGA ASSSISTANT’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Jim Troy was the only player with back-to-back sub-par rounds on Tuesday and cruised to a six-shot victory in the 2019 Northern Ohio PGA Assistant Professional Championship at the Mayfield Campus of Mayfield Sand Ridge Country Club.

It was the second straight Assistant’s Championship in Ohio for Troy, who prevailed in 2018 at Fairlawn Country Club.

Troy, who played at the University of Nebraska, had rounds of 68-67 for a 36-hole score of 7-under par 135.

Belmont Country Club’s Mike Stone, winner of the Section’s Professional Championship last week at Portage Country Club, finished second with rounds of 68-73—141.

The Country Club’s Collin Slattery (70-72-142) finished third to earn one of three alternate spots to the 43rd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, to be played at the PGA Golf Club, in Port St. Luce, Fla., in November.

Portage assistant Adam Lewicki (70-73–143) and Bowling Green State University head coach John Powers (75-69-144) earned the final two alternate spots.

The National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship brings together a field of 132 contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections and features a total purse of $150,000. All rounds will be played on the Wanamaker Course. A cut after 36 holes of play to the low 70 scorers and ties will be made.
