Steve Blackburn Jr. is the 2018 Manakiki Course Champion. He fired a 3-under par 69 on Day 1 and followed that up with a 1-over par 73 for a two day total of 142, 2-under par.

The field was close after Round 1 as Austin Powell shot a 1 under par 71, followed by three players at 74. But Blackburn Jr. was simply too steady throughout the tournament for the rest of the field. He was able to withstand a nice charge from this year’s runner-up David Sotka, who shot a 2-under par 70 on Sunday for a two-day total of 144 (even par for the event).

It was a beautiful two days for the 2018 Course Championship at Manakiki. The field was full of good players, with 49 players entered into this year’s event. In addition to competing for the title, players were trying to qualify for this year’s Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in early August.

With 10 Players in the field already exempt for the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship, we had 10 qualifying spots available for this year’s event (plus ties). The field was competitive and it took a two-day total of 155 to move on to the GCAC. The qualifiers are:

Michael Klaric III
Austin Powell
Phillip Bojc
Andy Grayson
Jeff Deal
Daniel Timby
Josh Blaustein
Jim Barber
Mark Belasic
Ian Hardesty
Andres Magallon
Darren Phipps

Thank you to all of the competitors in this year’s event, and best of luck to those who will be playing in the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship at Sleepy Hollow!
