The Golf Magazine 2020/2021 Top 100 Courses in the USA rankings were presented in the Nov/Dec issue of the print magazine and just released online at Courses from the state of Ohio earned four spots on that highly-regarded list.

But in this year’s edition, Golf Magazine also created a brand new set of lists naming the Top 50 ‘Best in Region’, broken down as Northeast, Southeast, Heartland and West. That Heartland list — which includes all the states from Ohio to Alabama to Texas and up to North Dakota — gave Ohio 9 spots out of the 50, with four of those spots earned by Northeast Ohio Courses — but only after an important clarification and correction.

Earning a spot on the primary Top 100 USA list are Inverness in Toledo at #33 (8th on the Heartland list), The Golf Club in New Albany at #42 (10th Heartland), Muirfield Village at #51 (12th Heartland) and Moraine CC in Dayton at #65 (13th Heartland).

Next, the new Heartland Top 50 list showcased Scioto CC in Columbus in the 24th spot.

After that, it’s all Northeast Ohio:

Kirtland CC in Willoughby Hills took #30;

Canterbury in Beachwood at #44;

The Country Club in Pepper Pike at #46;

– and Brookside at #48.

But Brookside required clarification with the author, as in the print edition of Nov/Dec of Golf Magazine the Heartland list reads:

48 Brookside COLUMBUS, OH

Brookside Golf & Country Club is located in Columbus, so an email was sent to Ran Morrissett, the author of the list and related story.

“Yes, that was a mistake,” Morrissett replied to our question asking if Brookside should be CANTON, OH instead of COLUMBUS, OH. He attached a copy of the revision that will appear on the GOLF.COM website in the days ahead. He added “Congrats on living in a state stacked with superb golf!”

For a sense of some of the courses that also earned a spot on the Heartland Top 50 list (but not the primary Top 100) check out these names: Interlachen (23); Erin Hills (28); Olympia Fields North (31); Medinah #3 (36); Colonial (39); and Hazeltine (50).

That’s some quality company appearing along side the four Heartland honorees from Northeast Ohio…
