Two minutes less time to walk around in a circle. That’s just another of the sensible 2019 Rules of Golf updates that players must remember for the upcoming season.
Instead of the five minutes of circle-walking like in the past, players and their helpers are now limited to a maximum of three minutes of search time to find any foul balls. Start the clock!
The USGA offers three to-the-point reasons for this Rules update:
– in most cases, if the ball is going to be found it will be found within 3 minutes;
– although this change may increase the number of lost balls, it should speed up play;
– knowing search time is limited to 3 minutes will encourage play of a provisional ball.
