FINAL RESULTS: 2010 USGA Mid-Am Local Qualifier

USGAJim Perry of Canfield and Todd Humrichouser of Westerville tied for medalist honors at the USGA’s Mid-Amateur Championship Local Qualifying Tournament today, finishing with a 2-under par score of 69 at the Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Ohio.

Mike Hyland of Ottawa Hills also advanced through the qualifier with an even par score of 71.

The final qualifying spot went to Canton’s Nick Lambos after a playoff win over Douglas Ray of Alliance, as both players finished with a score of 1-over par 72. [Read more →]

Amateurs Dominate U.S. Open Local Qualifying

USGAIn an event typically dominated by professionals, amateurs Patrick Rodgers of Avon, IN and Dr. Jeff Mallette of North Canton claimed the top two places of seven total spots in Thursday’s U.S. Open local qualifying event at Weymouth Country Club in Medina.

Rodgers posted a 4-under par 68 to take the medalist honors, while Mallette shot 2-under par 70 to tie with professional Garrett Frank of Youngstown for second place. And the “am invasion” didn’t stop there. [Read more →]

 

2009 U.S. Mid-Am Qualifier Results

USGALocal players Matt Heestand of Cleveland and Saumil Jhaveri of Westlake made it through the Northeast Ohio qualifier for the United States Golf Association’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Hudson today. The Mid-Am is for players age 25 and older. The Championship proper will be held at the Kiawah Island Club in Charleston, S.C. on October 3-8.

Latimer Out in Playoff for Match Play at U.S. Am

2009 U.S. Amateur Golf ChampionshipNick Latimer of Brooklyn posted rounds of 75-73=148 to tie for 61st place and participated in a playoff this morning to make it to the match play portion of the United States Amateur Golf Championship at Southern Hills. But he was not able to secure one of the four spots remaining in the match play field against the 27 players at 148.

Northeast Ohio players Trevor Bowman of Harpster scored 78-77=155, Mac McLaughlin of Shaker Heights shot 76-81=157 and Dan Metzendorf of Medina posted 81-85=166 to miss the cut.

 

Castor, Brick and Kain Qualify for U.S. Senior Am

USGATom Castor of Ashland, Norton Brick of Elyria, and Bob Kain of Hunting Valley advanced from the local qualifier of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, held today at the challenging Kirtland Country Club.

Castor was medalist with a solid 1-over par 72, and Brick settled for a 74 after starting with a front nine of 34. Kain advanced after a round of 75 (which included a hole-out for eagle on a par 4) by winning a 3-players-for-one-spot playoff.

Latimer, Metzendorf, Juszczyk Qualify for U.S. Am

USGAFresh off a record-setting victory in the Northeast Ohio Am, Nick Latimer of Brooklyn earned the medalist honors at the greater Cleveland area 36-hole qualifier for the United States Amateur Championship, posting a 2-under par total 142 that included a 4-under par 68 at Red Tail Golf Club in Avon.

Also qualifying was Dan Metzendorf of Strongsville with an even par score of 144 that included a second-round 69 at Avon Oaks. Joe Juszczyk of Dearborn Heights, MI grabbed the final qualifying spot by winning the first playoff hole in a four-player shoot-out after posting 1-over par 145.

Local Pair Qualify for 2009 U.S. Publinx

Qualifiers for the 2009 U.S. Public Links Championship from the Windmill Lakes Golf Club qualifying event, Monday, June 15th:

Vaughn Snyder Qualifies for U.S. Open at Bethpage

USGAWith scores of 67-69=136, local amateur Vaughn Snyder of Massillon was one of four players who made it through the Dayton regional last Monday, and will play in the U.S. Open next week at Bethpage Black June 18-21 in Farmingdale, N.Y. Congratulations Vaughn!

 

Bohardt and Marlowe Medal at Local U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier

USGATom Bohardt of Concord Township and Richard Marlowe of Youngstown each posted 1-under par 70 at Acacia Country Club on Monday to qualify for the United States Senior Amateur Championship at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas September 20 – 25.

Cavey and Metzendorf Medal at Local U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier

USGABen Cavey of Wadsworth and Daniel Metzendorf of Strongsville earned their way to the 2008 United States Mid-Amateur Championship by posting the low rounds of the day at the regional qualifier, a one-over par 73 at the challenging Lake Forest CC in Hudson today.

Four players followed with 74: Brian Sparrow of Chagrin Falls; David Brown of Pittsburgh; Eugene O’Byrne of Massillon; and Mark Telerico of Aurora. In a playoff for the remaining two spots, Sparrow and Brown earned their way into the championship field, and O’Byrne and Telerico are alternates.

The 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at Milwaukee Country Club in River Hills, Wisconsin on September 6 – 11.

Local Players Move On to 2008 U.S. Amateur

USGAFour local guys beat back a slew of players from across the state — and several other states plus Canada, too — to earn spots in the United States Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Golf Club, August 18-24.

Ross Beal of Uniontown fired a sizzling 6-under par to take medalist honors for the 36 holes, which was split between Fowlers Mill GC and Legend Lake CC. Jeff Malette of Canton posted a solid 2-under par to finish second. Three players tied for third at even par, forcing a playoff for the final two spots, which was won by Mac McLaughlin of Shaker Heights and Zach Glassman of Highland Heights.
