As the last group of the day was still grinding it out on the golf course in search of a win, Lucas Murray of East Sparta was sitting in the clubhouse waiting.

Starting the day tied for ninth place and five shots off the lead, Murray’s final round six-under par 65 at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton was an incredible turn-around, giving him a three shot victory in the 2010 Stark County Amateur Golf Championship with a 54-hole total of even par 215. Entries are now being accepted for the 2010 Stark County Amateur Golf Championship sponsored by New Horizon Financial Group. This 54-hole individual stroke play tournament will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 23-24-25.  [Read more →]

The Stark County Amateur Golf Association has decided to cancel its June 27th “bramble” tournament at the Legends of Massillon Golf Club due to low registrations.

SCAGA’s next event will be The Stark County Amateur, to be played at Prestwick, Seven Hills and The Sanctuary on July 23-25th. To enter, visit the SCAGA website.

After heavy rain mid-day washed out Saturday’s first round of the Stark County Amateur Golf Association’s 36-hole Spring Classic stroke play event, players headed out to Sable Creek Golf Club on Sunday to play in a one-day, 18-hole event.

104 golfers converged on the 6,730 yard Zoar Village Golf Club for the annual opening Stark County Amateur Golf Association 2-man scramble tournament. The greens were in great shape as usual, fast and tricky for some of us.

Dave Oates and Mike Simpson went low at the Stark County Amateur Golf Association’s 2-Man Scramble at Chippewa Golf Course in Doylestown on Saturday. Their score of 12-under par 59 was good for a one-shot victory over Larry Russell and Scott Heran in the AA Division. Results:

- The Stark County Amateur Golf Association will hold a 2-player scramble at Chippewa Golf Course in Doylestown this Saturday, August 15th. To register, visit the SCAGA website or call 330-696-1986;

- The Cleveland Golf Galaxy Tour plays at Greyhawk GC in LaGrange on Saturday;

- The Akron District Golf Association will host its final event of the regular season this Sunday, August 16, at the 3-Man Shamble at Lake Forest Country Club in Hudson. The shamble format: select the best shot off the tee, move all balls to that spot, then play individual stroke play from there. Add all three scores together for the team score. - The Championship Golf Association plays an invitation-only event at Stonewater GC on Sunday.
