Two associations kick off the 2012 season on this third week of April: the weekly Greater Cleveland Skins Game starts its season this Thursday at Fowlers Mill Golf Course in Chesterland at 4:30 p.m., while the Stark County Amateur Golf Association begins its year with a 2-man scramble at The Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton on Saturday. The Stark County Golf Association has changed the date and starting time of its first event of the 2012 season. SCAGA’s 2-player scramble will now be played on Saturday, April 21st at The Sanctuary, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Details in the Tournament Calendar.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2011 Stark County Amateur, a three-day 54-hole individual stroke play championship to be contested Friday July 8th through Sunday July 10th at three great area golf courses. [Read more →]

Kurt Peterson of Massillon grabbed a win Sunday at Rosemont in the 36-hole ADGA / SCAGA Stroke Play Tournament, while Joe Hedrick of Barberton cruised to a 5-shot victory in the Senior Division.

Dave Oates and Jordan Grubb finished in a first place tie in the Stark County Amateur Golf Association’s 2011 Spring Classic at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton on Sunday. Each player posted a 2-under par score of 69. [Read more →]

The Stark County Amateur Golf Association announced today that the 2011 Spring Classic — originally scheduled as a 36-hole two-day individual stroke play event — will now be played as a single round 18-hole tournament. [Read more →]

The lead group played 14 holes and the entire field of 64 made it through four, but eventually the intermittent rain turned into a steady downpour and the first event of the 2011 SCAGA season was a wash-out.

The next event on the SCAGA schedule is the 2-day, 36-hole Spring Classic, May 21 at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Canton and May 22 at The Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton. To enter, visit SCAGA.com.

The Stark County Amateur Golf Association has made several user-friendly changes over the last few years. The biggest change has been the elimination of any membership fee to play in our events: each player pays the tournament entry fee, an optional skins game fee, and the golf course greens/cart fee (most of which have been discounted for our players) — and that’s it!

Justin Lower and Richie Schembechler put on a show at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown on Sunday in the final 2o1o event of the Stark County Amateur Golf Association series. Both players finished with a sizzling-hot score of 5-under par 66.  [Read more →]

As the last group of the day was still grinding it out on the golf course in search of a win, Lucas Murray of East Sparta was sitting in the clubhouse waiting.

Starting the day tied for ninth place and five shots off the lead, Murray’s final round six-under par 65 at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton was an incredible turn-around, giving him a three shot victory in the 2010 Stark County Amateur Golf Championship with a 54-hole total of even par 215. The Stark County Amateur Golf Association has decided to cancel its June 27th “bramble” tournament at the Legends of Massillon Golf Club due to low registrations.
