Ohio EPA to Munson Township About Their Plans for Fowlers Mill: Not This Year

This afternoon, the Ohio EPA has sent a letter to the Munson Township Trustees telling them that because of all the recent changes they have made to their clean water grant proposal, the proposal can no longer be considered for the 2010 program.

But the rejection letter also goes on to tell the Township trustees what they should do if they want to apply for the same grant again in 2011. [Read more →]

Greater Cleveland Skins GameBirdies were scarce on the treacherous greens of Wicked Woods Golf Course in Newbury on Thursday night in the Greater Cleveland Skins Game.

Four holes had no birdies on them at all, including the easily-reachable par-5 13th hole.

Munson Township Trustees Approve Revised Fowlers Grant Application at Last Minute Meeting

In what can only be called a “surprise meeting,” last night the trustees from Munson Township approved significant changes to their Ohio EPA clean water grant application, now hoping to make a partial purchase of Fowlers Mill Golf Course with EPA money.

But this new proposal still fills the pockets of Todd Peterson and his Fowlers Mill ownership group, paying them more money for some small slices of the golf course than what the group paid for the entire property just last year. And if the Ohio EPA grant is secured, Munson Township would close the best holes on the nationally-recognized Pete Dye-designed golf course, while the ownership group uses some of the lesser holes across the road on the Maple 9 to keep open a newly-configured 18-hole facility. Greater Cleveland Skins GameRob Shustrich of Windham fired an even par score of 71 to capture the 2010 Greater Cleveland Shoot-Out at Chardon Lakes Golf Club on Labor Day Monday.

Shustrich birdied the first two holes of the day and never looked back, firing even par nines of 35-36. It was Shustrich’s first Cleveland Shoot-Out victory, and the win earned him the $750 first place prize. [Read more →]

Turkeyfoot Lake Golf LinksRoss Beal and Tommy Li battled back and forth throughout the two-day Turkeyfoot Golf Links Course Championship in Akron this weekend.

With firm greens, tough hole locations, and a windy, rainy and chilly day on Saturday, Beal led with a first round score of 73 to Li’s 75. [Read more →]

2010 Greater Cleveland Skins Game: Week 20 Results

Greater Cleveland Skins GameEddie Neer widened his lead on the 2010 Leaderboard on Thursday at Tanglewood National Golf Course, grabbing two of the three skins won on the night.

Neer made birdie on the short par-4 second hole, and then followed that up with a birdie on the 520-yard par-5 sixth hole that held up. [Read more →]

 

FINAL RESULTS: 2010 USGA Mid-Am Local Qualifier

USGAJim Perry of Canfield and Todd Humrichouser of Westerville tied for medalist honors at the USGA’s Mid-Amateur Championship Local Qualifying Tournament today, finishing with a 2-under par score of 69 at the Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Ohio.

Mike Hyland of Ottawa Hills also advanced through the qualifier with an even par score of 71.

The final qualifying spot went to Canton’s Nick Lambos after a playoff win over Douglas Ray of Alliance, as both players finished with a score of 1-over par 72. [Read more →]
