Greater Cleveland Skins GameSteve Blackburn Jr., the reigning Greater Cleveland Skins Game Champion, made a bold move this week at Quail Hollow Country Club: he made the only skin of the night.

Blackburn Jr. made a “statement eagle” on the 490-yard par-5 8th hole on the Weiskopf Course, hitting driver then 7-iron to two feet. [Read more →]

 

Ohio EPA Says No Money Has Been Granted to Munson Township for Fowlers Mill

Mike Settles, the Media Relations Coordinator for the Ohio EPA’s Public Interest Center, replied to questions posed by Northeast Ohio Golf about the Munson Township trustee’s application to receive funding for the purchase of Fowlers Mill Golf Course, to then convert it to a park for water quality issues.

Settles’ reply disputes one very important fact presented in the story written by the Lake County News Herald: no decision has been made regarding the proposal, and no money has been given to anyone. [Read more →]

 

Governor’s Office: Fowlers’ Demise Not Certain

Northeast Ohio Golf contacted Governor Ted Strickland’s office today to get comment from the governor on the Ohio EPA’s financing of the Fowlers Mill Golf Course purchase referenced in the story yesterday.

Spokesperson Amanda Wurst replied today, saying discussions about the closing of the golf course may be premature. [Read more →]

 

Munson Township Hopes to Buy — Then Close — Fowlers Mill Golf Course?

In what looks to be an extreme example of both government-waste and a suspect real estate deal, the Munson Township trustees are planning to purchase and then close the nationally-recognized Fowlers Mill Golf Course in Chesterland at the end of the 2011 golf season.

Chippewa Monday Scratch LeagueDave Trier and Mike Lynch broke the hearts of eight teams, as they grabbed the top spot in Week 10 of the 2010 Chippewa Scratch League as one of the very last groups of the evening.

Ohio Golf AssociationMichael Bernard of the Dayton suburb of Huber Heights became the youngest champion in the 104-year history of the Ohio Amateur Championship today. The 16-year-old posted a final-round even-par 71 at Kirtland Country Club in Willoughby to finish the 72-hole tournament with a score of 7-under 277, good for a five shot victory. [Read more →]
