Oates Grabs Lead in 2010 Summit County Am Rd1

Dave Oates hits his drive off the 10th tee during Saturday's Summit County Am first round.
Dave Oates posted a smooth 2-under par 69 to grab the overnight lead after the first round of the 2010 Summit County Amateur Golf Championship at Good Park Golf Course on Saturday.

When Joey Hurtuk, Phil Bojc, Les Brock and Josh Mayle teed it up last Wednesday in the Kent State Blue & Gold Alumni Golf Outing at the KSU Golf Course, it seemed like just another day of scramble golf for these four friends.
But by day’s end, the foursome was scheduling an expenses-paid trip to Pinehurst (including two rounds at famed #2) and one of the guys had the keys to a brand new $56K car. [Read more →]

Snyder Top Pro, Albright Winning Am at Medalist Tour Event at Rosemont

Vaughn Snyder became the first professional to capture three titles in the inaugural Medalist Tour season by shooting a 4-under par 67 to win The InfoCision Copley-Fairlawn Open at Rosemont Country Club.
And InfoCision CEO Carl Albright wore two hats on Tuesday: sponsor and player. By the end of the day, he went home wearing a crown, shooting a 1-under par 70 and winning the Amateur Championship Flight. [Read more →]

Fowlers Mill Deal May Be an Even Bigger Windfall, Boondoggle Than First Stated

Last week, Northeast Ohio Golf wrote in three different stories that the Munson Township trustees, in conjunction with the Northeast Ohio Sewer District and the Geauga County Park District, have submitted an application to the Ohio EPA in an effort to obtain $5.1 million in “water clean-up funding” to purchase — and then close — the nationally-recognized Fowlers Mill Golf Course in Chesterland.
It was also reported (based on a story in the Lake County News Herald) that Todd Peterson’s investment group, FMGC LLC, paid $3.1 million for the property in December of 2009.
Those stories concluded that courtesy of taxpayer money, the investment group potentially could earn a $2 million windfall in just nine months.
But in reality, the windfall would be much greater than $2M, as the purchase price from last December was not correctly reported by the News Herald. [Read more →]
FINAL RESULTS: 2010 Stark County Amateur

As the last group of the day was still grinding it out on the golf course in search of a win, Lucas Murray of East Sparta was sitting in the clubhouse waiting.
Starting the day tied for ninth place and five shots off the lead, Murray’s final round six-under par 65 at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton was an incredible turn-around, giving him a three shot victory in the 2010 Stark County Amateur Golf Championship with a 54-hole total of even par 215.
