Frischette and Team Win Yankee Run 5-Man Scramble; 3 Holes-in-One Made for Skins!
by Allen Freeman | April 26, 2009 Comments Off
Under ideal playing conditions with April temperatures near 85 degrees, a field of 36 teams vied for a $10,000 purse with an added $960 in the skins game.
The team of Eric Frischette, Todd Cravens, Mike Doan, Kyle House, and Ken Cook shot an amazing 19 under par, a tournament record. They amassed 2 eagles, 15 birdies, and only one par for their winning score of 51.
In the skins game, there were an amazing seven skins out — and an even more incredible 3 holes-in-one on the day! In the many years of this event, there have been only a couple of hole-in-ones in that entire span of time; three in one day is a spectacular feat. Complete results below. [Read more →]

Walt Robertson and Team Take Chippewa 6-Man
by Allen Freeman | April 25, 2009 Comments Off
With some strong winds and the kinds of pins you would expect for a 6-Man scramble at Chippewa, some might say Mother Nature and the golf course won the first ever Chippewa 6-Man Scramble in Doylestown on Saturday. Certainly no team ran away with it or went deep on the scorecard.
Better said, the team of Walt Robertson, Randy Skorman, Ty Kovach, Chris Okeson, Ryan Stefanski and Allen Freeman outlasted the rest of the field to claim the top honor, posting a 16-under par 55 to win by a single shot, good for the $3,000 first prize. [Read more →]
Freeman Birdies a Fistful at Fowlers in 2009 Greater Cleveland Skins Game Kick-Off
by John Niedzialek | April 24, 2009 Comments Off
Allen Freeman of Brecksville jumped out to the early lead in the 2009 Greater Cleveland Skins Game race for the Thompson Cup, posting five birdies in nine holes and netting two skins.
Freeman’s winning birdies came at the par-4 second and the par-5 eighth at Fowler’s Mill, while birdies at 3, 5 and 9 knocked out some potential skins.

Also jumping directly into the points race with skins were Joe Tasca of Concord with a solid birdie right out of the gate at the par-4 first hole, and Paul Kish of Painesville Township with a great birdie on the signature hole at Fowler’s, the difficult par-4 fourth. Each skin was worth $103.50.
2008 Greater Cleveland Skins Game champion Steve Blackburn Jr. dipped his fingers into the pot right off the bat as well, grabbing the first pin shot of the season at the 170-yard par-3 third hole with a shot to two feet. Skins Game Director John Niedzielek nabbed the other pin shot, hitting it to 12 feet on the par-3 seventh. Each pin shot was good for $63. [Read more →]

Greater Cleveland Skins Game Now Offers Players Exemptions into Cleveland Am
by Allen Freeman | April 21, 2009 Comments Off
Players competing in the Greater Cleveland Skins Game this season have an added incentive to play well: a chance to earn an exemption directly into the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship.
John Niedzialek, Director of the Greater Cleveland Skins Game, has announced that the tournament directors from Cleveland Metroparks Golf have granted five direct exemptions into the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship via the skins game’s mid-season points list.
The top five players in the standings after the July 5th skins game will gain exempt status into the Cleveland Amateur proper and will not have to play in the local qualifying tournaments. Niedzialek says this is a win- win situation, as it will give top players another opportunity to play in what has become one of the premier amateur golf events in Northeast Ohio while giving the Greater Cleveland Skins Game added visibility. Two Teams Dribble Their Way to a Win at Eagle Creek; Ailes Aces for Skin
by Allen Freeman | April 20, 2009 Comments Off
Two veteran teams hit it close enough to the hole and bounced in enough putts to tie for the win at the Eagle Creek 6-Man Scramble in Norwalk on Sunday.
The 6-man teams of pro Eric Frischette and of captain Jason Kiley (teammates listed below) overcame the chilly day and difficult course conditions to claim a tie for the top spot at 18-under par.
Finishing in second place alone at 17-under par was the Mike Stone team.
The Stone team also grabbed one of two skins made on the day with a chip-in eagle at the 324-yard par-4 17th. The other skin belonged to the Tim Ailes team with Ailes’ hole-in-one at the 174 yard par-3 6th, the loudest roar of the day on the golf course.
Results and an “editorial comment” follow. [Read more →]

Time to get the rust off and get ready for the start of the 2009 golf season!
The $100 Big Skins Game at Chippewa GC goes full swing this Monday starting at 11:30 a.m. (and every Monday through the summer unless posted here). And since the format is a big skins game (fire at the flags!), everyone has a chance. It’s a great way to get in “playing shape” for the season, so get out there. [Read more →]
