The team of Dave Oates and Sam Spino captured the back-nine better ball event at this week’s Chippewa Monday Night Scratch League, posting a 3-under par 33 to edge four other teams on a great night for golf.
But the big story is that their score of 33 included a hole-out eagle-2 on the par-4 15th hole!
With the field shot, Oates/Spino grabbed one of only two skins won — on a skins carry-over night, no less – netting them $525 for their eagle on the tough 15th hole. The team of Drew Thompson and Russ Ryka grabbed the other big cash skin, with a birdie on the par-3 17th.
The year-long league standings are now posted and available, as the gift certificate portion of the weekly prizes has been determined (shown as GC below). Oates and Spino lead the pack with their big win this week, but a number of teams are breathing down their necks. Should be a great race throughout the season. Season standings through Week 5 can be found here.

Shane Ash nabbed his second consecutive Championship Golf Association victory, taking the top spot at the stroke play event at Sugarbush GC in Garrettsville on yet another windy day.
Ash posted a 1-over par 73 to beat Brian Smith and Scott Heran by a single stroke. Smith birdied 16 and 17 (posting a great back nine score of 34) to tie Ash to that point, while Heran eagled the 17th to take the outright lead. But Ash birdied the 18th hole to win, while Heran made bogey and Smith made par.
The next CGA event is the Modified Stableford points event, scheduled for an early morning start on Sunday, June 22 at The Quarry in North Canton. To register, visit the CGA website or call 216-556-0219.

A last-minute shift from Powderhorn to Thunder Hill by the Greater Cleveland Skins Game did not slow down Steve Blackburn Jr., who double-dipped another skin and pin shot to take home $201. Blackburn made birdie at the fourth hole and grabbed the pin shot on #9 to extended his lead in the chase for the Thompson Cup and the Greater Cleveland Skins Game.
Other skins were won by Paul Kish with a birdie on the seventh hole, and by John Niedzialek with a birdie on the eighth, each paying $138.
John Distefano captured the other pin shot on the third hole, worth $63.
The Skins Game was moved to Thunder Hill due to a rain delay and golf outing at Powderhorn; a special thanks to the staff at Thunder Hill for accommodating on such short notice the 18 players that participated.
The Skins Game moves to Fowlers Mill this coming Thursday, June 12 starting at 5:00 pm. Green fees are $22.00 riding, which includes a beverage. Anyone wishing to play a warm-up 9 before the scheduled Skins Game must call the course first to make such arrangements.

The Monday Chippewa Scratch League resumed play after a week off, playing scramble on the front nine. The team of Brad Stewart and Joe Pillitiere won the night with a 5-under par score of 30, beating four other teams by a single shot.
Unfortunately, all Stewart and Pillitiere win are gift certificates, as they did not toss in the $10 each for the Pro Pot. (Ouch! Gator arms are always costly in the long run…)
There were no skins won on the night, meaning a double skins pot will be in play next week. Complete results below…
Week 4 Results - 6/2/08: Front Nine Scramble
1st Stewart - Pillitiere 30 Not in Pro Pot
T2 Freeman - Stefanski 31 $40.00
T2 Armour - Healaney 31 $40.00
T2 Kracker - Mallette 31 $40.00
T2 Flossie - Markham 31 $40.00
Skins: Carry Over
Senior Skins: $33 ea
Stewart - Pillitiere #4
C.Mozingo - Martin #6
Weaver - Weaver #5
NOTE: The weekly gift certificate amounts still have not been determined, as Eric and Kevin are still trying to collect the season-long entry fees from some other gator arm teams. Thus, the season-long points standings are not yet correct. Please pay the league fees this Monday if you have not done so, or you may be replaced in the league by a team that has no moths flying from their wallets when opened.
